File Search

The search in Multi Commander will let you search for files on your filesystem. The search does its work in the background allowing you to continue working with Multi Commander.

If your search returns a large result set and you have a hard time finding what you are looking for, you do not need to do a completely new search. You can do a further search among the files in your initial search result. This way you can narrow down the result until you find what you want without doing a completely new search.

Searching will cache the file and folder information of all files that it finds. So you can select to search in the Cache instead, then there is no need for search to re-get information from the disk or network again. This returns the search result very quickly, esspecially useful if you are searching over a network.

You can specify to match files via wildcard , a regex or simply that the file or folder name should contain the text you specify.

You can also exclude folders from the search, so when scanning the filesystem it will not scan that folder for matches. You can also specify how many sublevels deep you what the search to go.

From the search result you can select files and folders you want to copy or move to the target location.
You can also delete and view files directly from the search result.

From a file or folder in the search result you can select to go to that file. The target view will then browse to the location where the selected file is found, show the folder and set focus on it.

Search queries can be Saved to disk and later Loaded to be used again. The search result can also be Saved and then Loaded to be used at a later time.

By expanding the Find Files dialog you can perform more advanced searches, for example, searching for file content , matching file attributes, file size and date.
